StashStock Spotlight: Emily Richardson

Apr 03, 2023

Emily Richardson COO & CO-OWNER

The term operations can mean many things in a growing business. A Chief Operating Officer needs to focus on both short-term and long-term planning. For Emily Richardson, COO of StashStock this means her work is spread out across multiple aspects of the business. Staying engaged with customers, meeting the needs of the team, testing and evaluating StashStock technology, and even having her hands in the nitty gritty of accounting.

In defining how the business operates, the COO gives structure to the team and how they work. Emily’s focus on process development and improvement are a key aspect to her success in growing StashStock. Starting her career in healthcare and then moving into multiple roles in tech she had the opportunity to dig into processes at multiple levels. Her roles in program management focused on long-term strategic thinking and solving the near-term problems. Building and leading agile technology teams allowed her to understand the inner workings of day-to-day leadership and help teams, and people, reach their full potential.

Emily was the perfect fit for defining the right processes and making them effective at StashStock. Process is critical in operations, but it's not everything. There are human aspects of this job that keep Emily deeply engaged in her work.

Customer relationships are at the core of StashStock.  Everyone on the team is focused on giving customers the best possible experience and will jump at the chance to work alongside a customer to figure out a solution. Emily draws energy from these interactions.

“People love our tools… we show off the different features and hear, ‘Wow, whoa, it can do that?! No way! This is gonna make my job so much faster’ … We hear it all the time!”

“I remember, a new client…they had been using the CannaScanner and CannaScale for, a week or two, not too long. We were on a call with them to answer some questions that had come up. At the end of the call they told us “you guys have no idea, but you are changing our lives right now!”

Emily talks about the cannabis industry with an appreciation of community.

“Everybody's so kind, understanding and just laid back. It's a nice feeling and a great community.”

That kind and hard working culture fits Emily, it feels like she found her place. Those vibes permeate through the StashStock team as well. Culture is important to the team, celebrating each other’s success as their own.

“People will bring ideas even outside of their scope… because they care about the success of StashStock, which is really cool.”

Emily’s curious spirit leads her to soak up knowledge from everyone around her. She stays open to learn from teammates, experts, and customers. You can tell she is driven to connect with people and works to achieve an in-depth understanding of her work. Asking the right questions is essential.

“How is this supposed to work? Why does it work that way? Tell me more about this process.”

As an extension of this learning process Emily is always helping with translation. It’s a major way she contributes to the team. She listens and interprets, sometimes internally with the StashStock software and sales teams, or externally, listening to customers and translating their needs back to the team. She is always listening, interpreting, and connecting people around her.

When you see Emily talk to her about the team and how they relentlessly continue helping cultivators save time, and stay compliant. Emily is open to hear from you and always happy to connect with other folks in the industry!
